Amy Zheng is so excited to be a part of The Studio. She has been dancing since the age of 3 at Oceanside Dance Center, studying tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, & contemporary and was a part of the Oceanside Dance Company, traveling to different competitions along the East Coast such as Kids Artistic Revue, Dance Xplosion, Beyond the Stars, & Onstage New York. As she got older, she began training at different dance studios around Long Island and Manhattan, challenging herself to broaden her horizons and learn various techniques from different teachers. She has trained at the The Dance Loft, Broadway Dance Center, Peridance Capezio Center, & Alvin Ailey, studying under professionals such as Michelle Barber, Caleb Teicher, Dorit Koppel, Leiomy Maldonado, Justin Boccitto, & many more. Amy has taught and choreographed dances in tap, ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary & modern (Horton technique) to children, teens and adults of all levels. While Amy was traveling to different studios around Manhattan and trained in the IB dance program, a college level program with a unique, holistic approach to dance, she fell in love with the new learning environments she was exposed to. Growing up in a competition studio, taking classes in NYC was a drastic change… a non-cliquey, drama free environment with new people coming in every day from all over to focus on themselves, to improve their technique, and to learn a new dance routine every week, which was so refreshing, especially when she was so used to rehearsing the same numbers every week to prepare for a competition, recital or production. This is why Amy is so excited to be at The Studio for the Performing Arts! Since it is a non-competition, non-recital studio, it is so similar to many dance studios in NYC… A professional, safe, creative space for people of all ages to improve their technique, let loose & have fun. It’s also a really fun workout, unlike the gym. Aside from dance, Amy is heavily involved with the electronic music scene in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Berlin, and Cairo and has recently graduated from an audio engineering program at SAE Institute NYC in June 2019. She has been working at Rich Royce Studios for 2 years, assistant engineer for 2x Grammy nominated recording engineer Rich Royce, working with artists such as Shaggy, Major Lazer, The Martinez Brothers and is a resident deep house producer & DJ with Vibe Tribe NY, and has shared a billing with artists such as Disclosure, Sofi Tukker, & Seth Troxler. Amy is now currently working on a traveling interactive event series with deep house music, art installments, and a group of dancers/performers. Excited to dance with you!
